NEPSE Shows Mixed Performance as Trading Volume Reaches NPR 11.44 Billion



KATHMANDU, June 15 – The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) displayed a mixed trading session on Saturday, with the main index posting modest gains while several sector indices experienced declines. The benchmark NEPSE index closed at 2,657.52 points, representing a marginal increase of 2.13 points or 0.08 percent from the previous trading day’s close of 2,655.38 points.

The day’s trading activity was characterized by significant market participation, with a total turnover of NPR 11,443,272,636.94 and a trading volume of 25,393,762 shares changing hands. However, the actual traded shares stood at just 600 units across 3 transactions, with only one script being actively traded. The total turnover for these transactions amounted to NPR 173,300, indicating limited activity in the specific trading segment shown.

Manufacturing emerged as the standout performer among sector indices, with the MANPROCIND surging by 109.24 points to close at 7,185.72, marking an impressive gain of 1.54 percent. The hydropower sector also showed strong momentum, as the HYDPOWIND index climbed 41.44 points to reach 3,682.59, representing a 1.13 percent increase. The hotel and tourism sector (HOTELIND) advanced by 19.42 points to 6,906.80, while the development banking index (DEVBANKIND) gained 26.55 points to close at 5,440.92.

Conversely, several indices faced downward pressure during the trading session. The microfinance index (MICRFININD) declined by 10.77 points to 4,671.90, representing a 0.23 percent drop. The sensitive index (SENSIND) fell by 0.41 points to 453.68, while the sensitive float index (SENSFLTIND) decreased by 0.24 points to 154.20. The others index (OTHERSIND) also retreated, losing 14.25 points to settle at 2,313.92.

Market liquidity appeared adequate with collateral utilization showing healthy levels. Out of the total available collateral of NPR 232,109, traders utilized NPR 19,417.50, representing 91.6 percent availability for trading purposes. The mixed performance across different sectors suggests that investors are being selective in their approach, with manufacturing and energy sectors attracting positive sentiment while financial services face some headwinds. Market analysts will be closely watching upcoming sessions to determine if this trend continues or if broader market sentiment shifts.
